Consultancy Services

We work as consultants to social organisations, social formations, communities, leaders and practitioners who are concerned with questions of social renewal. We seek particularly to restore wholeness to fragmenting parts, to help clients develop the insights which may enable their efforts to cohere in more meaningful ways, to work beyond their lists of issues and stuck places into a realm of reflective learning and renewed meaning. To find the sources of their constraints and possibilities and to move into the arena of social creativity once more.

We work with an innovative approach that regards organisations and social situations as living entities. Rather than working with the more conventional mechanistic approaches, The Proteus Initiative works responsively and holistically with the emerging development trajectory of organisations, and insists that sufficient levels of critical self-awareness are key to an organisation’s performance. We work to ensure that the inner capacities of leadership and practitioners are developed, and that organisational functioning is aligned with the core practice and methodology of the organisation, rather than the other way around. Raising awareness and critical self-reflection around core practice and methodology, around organisational culture and around relationships - all often overlooked in the myriad activities to which organisations sometimes feel chained - is an essence of The Proteus Initiative’s approach. It is the ability of The Proteus Initiative to enter deeply into diverse organisational contexts and approaches - without prior specific expertise in the field of work of that organisation - that gives our interventions their cutting edge.

The key to that which The Proteus Initiative brings to those who request its services is the increased ability to observe and to understand - with greater breadth and depth - the realities of their situations and contexts. To get under the skin of their own situations, to reveal the animating energies that may empower, or the inconclusive dynamics and patterns that limit and hold a situation (and ourselves) captive. And to gain the courage and imagination to move beyond.

With these parameters in mind, we undertake organisational interventions, leadership and management, mentoring and coaching, community development facilitation, evaluations and research, development of strategies and systems, relationship facilitation and learning/reflection processes.
